Celebrate Manchester, Again!

We Love MRC Day

Join us tomorrow, on Friday 26th August to celebrate We Love MCR day.

The ‘I Love MCR’ campaign united the city in civic pride following the disturbances two weeks ago and has gone from strength to strength since.

Last Sunday’s Manchester Moment coincided with the Platform 4 festival which presented live music and street theatre and now the city is about to embark on another celebration with music and discounts galore.

SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES

Manchester MomentWe Love MCR Day isn’t just the cities response to the riots, it is about supporting all the independent businesses throughout the city, and in the process, raising funds for Forever Manchester and Reclaim – two great local charities.

More than 11,500 people have joined the ‘I Love MCR’ campaign on Facebook and they hope to reach 20,000 supporters by tomorrow – so if you haven’t joined yet, please do!

THE MAIN EVENT

The main event is in Exchange Square between 4pm and 6pm. There will be live music, street theatre and lots of freebies. In addition to stalls with giveaways, there will be activities and information, along with places to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere.

Dozens of businesses and organisations have signed up to celebrate by offering discounts and freebies on the day – Look out for branded posters in the windows.

Hey Little Cupcake Loves MCRIn Exchange Square Hey Little Cupcake are providing free mini ‘I Love MCR’ cupcakes and scones (Clippy’s Apples are providing jam for the scones), which you can wash them down with free Charbrew Tea.

Some offers will only be available to people wearing I Love MCR T-shirts so if you haven’t got one yet you can pick them up at the pop-up shop in the Arndale, with profits going to charity.

I love MCR t-shirtEven Manchester Landmarks will be dressed to impress: The Co-op has today unveiled a 56 meter high I Love Manchester banner, spanning 15 floors of the CIS Tower. Tonight, Urbis and Piccadilly Tower will have beating hearts projected on to them.

  1. It will be my last day home for 3weeks but I plan on stopping by to check out exchange square on my usual walk home through. I love hey little cupcake so also will be stopping by to say hello there. What a lovely pre holiday treat. Enjoy xx

  2. I’ll be in exchange square later today! We’re all going to be in the same place at the same time! Hey – look out for me, i’ll be the one in the ‘I love MCR’ tee 😉 x

    • Lol, and I’ll be dressed to match!

They’re looking for volunteers to release balloons with messages tied to them at 5pm to be released at 5.30pm. (Also in Exchange Square). I don’t know if I’ll make it for that but I’m going to try.

  3. As part of the I Love MCR campaign the Northern Quarter have decided to have another street party. (Any excuse really). I have written the blurb on the Events page, but in case you missed it here it is again…

“…the businesses of the Northern Quarter have come together to bring you the N…4 LOVES YOU festival. On the weekend of the 3rd & 4th September, we are bringing the party to the streets of the Northern Quarter. From Midday until 9pm, Thomas Street, Edge Street, Tip Street and Copperas Street will be closed for one big party!

“If you attended the last one, you’ll know what to expect but this one will be twice as big. With over 30 acts over the weekend we will be rocking the NQ.”

I wasn’t sure what to do with myself this weekend – I think I have an idea now…
